I don't paly it. I don't see the point of going out and waisting 50$ to buy the game, then another 50$ a month to paly it! I tried it and gave up after
5 min, I couldn't stand it!

I know, but I had to have my little rant because I don't see the point of sinking time and money into something that isn't productive.

People(users) can actually make a surprising amount of money from playing MMORPG's like WoW and Runescape. So many
people with high levels accounts are making gold(whatever the in-game currency is) and selling it for real cash! This has actually been outlawed in places like
China for obvious reasons. So many people pour there lives into WoW, it can become like a actual job with new friends and your character personality. Many
people get so wrapped up in these games that they lose the ability to interact in normal life as these games cater for everything at a click of a mouse.
MMORPG's are fairly new to the world and the long-term mental side affects are still to be learnt..
Stay away if you ask me. |

I kimda agree with you Sorrow.
World Of Warcraft has a lot of things (for lack of a better world) that occoupy the user so there is no real need for a "real" life. You can do pretty much the same on WoW as in real life. So I can imagine a lot of people not going out xD |

I use to play the warcraft games with my brother and dad.
My brother plays WoW I call it World of Warcrap. I hate it. As soon as a start a little download, or even open a couple of browsers, he goes crazy, saying that I'm making his game lag too much. He use to make me play runescape just so he could get more gold or w/e -.-* I am against WoW and any other online games ^o) They consume your life. Take up reading. Its better. |

I play WoW. And I like to think that I still have a life.
I also read. So... yeah. I can think of much worse things for me to spending £9 a month on, things that wouldn't give me the same enjoyment and social interaction that WoW does. One of the games strongest points is actually the community aspect. I can't play unless I have an active and friendly guild to play with. I have friend who play WoW and so we play together. And while I have been through that "OMG I am addicted to WoW" stage that a lot of people go through I certainly haven't let it take over my life. There are people who spend hours per day playing console games or on forums, I see WoW as no different to that. |

It's like any other form of entertanment, Video games, Computer games, any of the gamse that are data based.
But in terms of World Of Warcraft, you spend all this money on it, and alot of peole sink into the mentality taht they are spending a fortune on this game so they must play it as much as possible to make it seem worth while - wich leads to moremoney being spent and more time seated infornt of a computer ignoring thigs like jobs, persoanl hygene and various other activites one must take care of in everyday life. My ex is a hard-core gamer who spends alot of time palying various games and I was talkign to him last night and he basically said the same thing. That these games should be treated as entertainment only, playing for an hour or so every other day (or maybe two hours on weekends) is more than enough, any more than that and you loose out on too much. (Socail interaction face-to-face, jobs, education ect). I'm not against games in themselves, however I am against people who spend a small mint and play for days on end with these games. And sadly becasue people now-a-days seem to be in the mentality that virtual lives are more exciting (Wich is probably true in some cases) than actual lives that are productive. I myself play about 2 hours worth a week of video games, but people who spend 14+ hours on these types of games and spend a fortune plaiyng them need some serious help. |

I have no idea how someone can spend $50 a month on WoW and $50 on the game when the subscriptions are less than half than that per month and the game costs
about twenty dollars to buy in the first place. Unless they are bugying illegal gold of those weirdos in Korea.
I play WoW, but I actually have a life as well. I play badminton, the guitar, go for walks, exercise, and hang out with my friends and have a job. The fact that I spend two or three evenings a week on WoW hasn't meant I've ceased functioning as a person. Anyway yes, I do play WoW, I have a level 80 raiding mage on the ghostlands server. |

I wasn't really ranting about casual gamers (and with the conversions between UK and Canadian currency, it's about 50 here..), I was targeting gamers
taht spend weeks on end playing these games.

One month WoW subscription = £8.99
£1 = $1.8912 CAD therefore one month WoW subscription in Canada is $17.0048 CAD. to buy WoW and the first expansion = £15, so in canada $27.3876 CAD Conversion rates rly? http://www.xe.com/ucc/convert.cgi It isn't THAT bad. think about how much you earn in a month. |

Lifted straight from the WoW US site:
$14.99 per month for a month-to-month recurring subscription $13.99 per month for a 3-month recurring subscription $12.99 per month for a 6-month recurring subscription Obviously that's Dollars US so the conversion today is... $17.40 for month-to-month $16.25 per month on the 3 month plan $15 per month on the 6 month plan. So you were remarkably close there Deon. But taking it back to the cost of WoW versus the cost of other things I could be doing. I can play WoW with my friends several evening a week, so maybe 12 nights a month for a few hours and that'll cost me £9. I could however, go see a film with the same friends for the same number of nights and it would cost me... £6 a ticket per night plus fuel plus parking... at least £10 a night so that's £120 that month. As it stands I play WoW when I want to, I go to the cinema, I go to the pub, I play trumpet, I cycle, I run, I swim, I play Saxophone, I work, I study etc. etc. And through WoW I meet different people that I wouldn't meet without it and forge friendships that may or may not last but I don't care because I'm enjoying myself. As it stands I have a 77 Balance Druid on Ghostlands and a 53 Mage on Terokkar. |

I was converting from pounds to canadian dollars, you went from USD to CAD so obviously their rates are a little different. :-)
Exactly kiz, it'd cost us loads to go out to the cinema together every week for a month whereas we cans ee each other every week and play WoW together for less money |
|||
izzik22 |

And without WoW we'd probably interact with each other socially less, because we couldn't spend the money to see each other.

A night out for me usually costs me about a dollar for the gas I need to drive to a friends house and back, then we take the dogs and go to the kiddie park for
hours and play kiddie games and get stopped by the cops at 3 AM so they can ask if we're alright. Or we walk to the local coffee shop and sit in the lobby
for a while while some have coffee and then wee go for a walk.
My biggest issue is the amount of time younger and younger kids (and adults) are spending infornt of a computer screen. As a socity now-a-days we are spending too much time using and relying our every move on computers imparticularly. I probably spend maybe a few hours a week on a computer, and I'll be damned if I take a job where I have to use a computer all day. I'm much more the kind of perosn who prefers actually doing physucal labour while I work. |

I'm much more the kind of perosn who prefers actually doing physucal labour while I work. Me too =) That's why I chose to work night shifts at Tesco supermarket rather than day shifts. Much more hard graft and rewarding. As for WoW, I could never get into it (despite Simon thinking I could xD). It just seems that little bit too geeky for me. On a complete tangent, a cat from a neighbour's house down the road just came in through the cat flap and tried to eat my cat's food and I kept saying "Errr, no. This isn't your house and don't eat my cat's food!" and then it started purring and wanting attention. I was like "Go Away?!?!?!?!" |

I work as an Inventor for a plcae that makes "Sensible Energy Alterantives" right now, basically I assemble junk in the abck of the shop to see waht
I can make run off solar pannels or a mini windmill..
And cats are random like that.. |
|||
deonblaster |
|||

So, you hook up solar panels to already existing equipment. That's not so much inventing as it is recycling
I should imagine that so long as you know the power output of your solar panel or windmill, you can work out pretty easily what can or cannot be powered by it. Still it's another thing to add to your CV eh graf? How big is the word file on that mofo now? |

Because getting stopped by the cops at 3AM makes you hardcore. |
