The sun escapes the curtains clutches and the slither of light that managed to break through shines directly into Kai's
eyes.
'Ugh...' He moans and turns away from the bright light, burying his head into the pillow.
Eventually, he steps out of bed and groggily stumbles into the shower. The same mundane ritual he does every week day. He eats
breakfast, changes into his uniform and then leaves his apartment for work at 9:20am. Seeing as his shift starts at 9:30am he walks faster than usual through
the park until he hears a familiar voice shouting his name.
'Kai!..... KAI!' He see's a man with blonde hair and his trademark band that covers his nose. 'Reita.' Kai
thought to himself.
Resting a hand on Kai's shoulder, Reita struggles to slow down the amount of oxygen he's rapidly consuming. He pants hard
from where he ran after him and finally speaks.
'ARE YOU DEAF!?' Reita shouts. Stunned by his friends rapid mood change Kai stares at the blonde dumbly.
'What?' He manages to speak.
'I've been chasing you for 3 blocks!'
'Oh, sorry.' Kai giggles waving a earphone.
'Whatever, anyways Aoi and I was wondering if you'd like to come out tonight?'
'Uhhh.... Yeah, sure. What time?' He asks.
'About 8:30pm? That okay for you?' Reita says checking his watch.
'That's fine.' Kai smiles.
'Good, so we'll meet up at Cafe Sake. See you later.' He shouts over his shoulder, obviously late for work. Reita is one
of his closest friends. He works not far from him at a musician's store, selling instruments and on the odd occasion he gives bass lessons. They've
been friends since 4th Grade but ever since they left school they don't seem as close as they use to be.
Kai walks into the restaurant where he works and swiftly, signs in 1 minute early.
'Phew.' He whsipers to himself.
'Oh, hey Kai, could you serve the gentleman at table four, please?' One of the other employee's ask not giving him much
time to change into his apron.
'Yeah.' Kai sighs and picks his notebook and pen up, preparing to take the orders.
'Konnichiwa, can I get you anything, san?' He asks the stranger. The man seems to stand out from everybody else in the
restaurant. He's dressed in a silk, black suit with his tie loosened, he has five piercings in his right ear and his hair colour is almost platinum blonde
with the ends flicked out. He smiles back at Kai;
'Just a glass of water, doko.' The stranger answers and Kai returns his notebook and pen back to his apron pocket.
'Just a sec then,' He says and quickly walks back behind the counter filling a glass with the water and exactly 3 ice cubes.
'Here we go.' He says placing the glass on the table.
'Uh, why don't you join me? My names Ruki by the way.' He stands up and greets Kai with a bow.
'Umm... Sorry, I can't. My boss will get mad at me.' He says.
'Well how about later?' The man named Ruki asked. Kai thought for a few minutes.
'Why is he so desperate for me to meet up with him?' He thinks to his self.
'Hello?...' Ruki waves infront of Kai's face, bringing him back from his thoughts.
'How about we meet up at Cafe Sake at around half eight?' 'There's no harm I suppose and atleast I won't be on my
own.' He continues to think.
'Sounds great.' Ruki beams and sharply exits the restaurant.
'Hey! You left you-' Kai shouts after him, but he's aready gone. 'Hmm... Weird...'
Finally, the end of his shift arrives and he leaves before his boss can think of a reason for him to stay.
He wonders through the park again only this time the atmosphere is different. It's calm unlike through out the day where the
crowds are in their masses and cars pile up on the roads. The smell of blooming flowers and the strong scent of the sakura tree Kai was sitting under caressed
his nostrils and lingered in the air around him. He sits against the blossom tree and observes every little detail. Like how the grass tries to penetrate
through the tough fabric of his trousers, like how the only time you can hear the secret wildlife is in the night and how the moon captivates him. He thinks
it's weird how he can relate to the moon. Just sitting there in the night sky, alone. Kind of like he is tonight, and every other night. Although that
isn't entirely true because the moon has the stars for company and companionship. Now he truly feels alone. He looks away from the luminous sphere and
let's his head rest against the Sakura tree, he doesn't want to witness his only comfort be snatched away from him.
'Kai...' Someone whispers behind him. Startled, he jumps up ready to defend himself. He clears his head of his previous
thoughts not letting the stranger take advantage of his current state.
'It's okay.' He comes closer and stands under one of the park lights. It's Ruki.
'You. Are you stalking me?' Kai asks him.
'No, just observing.' He smiles.
'Well, can you not. It's kinda weird.'
'I'm sorry, it's just you looked lonely,' Kai flinched at the words. Ruki just looked down at his feet then back up
at Kai again. Sighing, Kai sat back down against the tree.
'You can join me if you want.'
'Thanks.' Ruki sits opposite Kai, legs crossed. 'So, what are you doing here anyways?' He asks curiously. Kai looks
up at him and answers;
'Just thinking, what about you?'
'I thought I'd take a walk before I meet up with you. The air is cleaner than usual.' He says before inhaling.
'Now that you come to think of it, it is.' Kai agrees. They made small talk for a little while before conversation turned on
theirselves, revealing facts, truthes and even secrets about one another. It was weird Kai thought, that how two people who met only this
morning feel like they've known each other for a long time. It was easy to hold a conversation with Ruki and vice versa. It
wasn't all fun and games though, Ruki was lonely too. Kai thought about what he felt like earlier, that he can relate to the moon, until he thought about
the stars that accompanied it.
'I know how you feel.' Kai said with a sad look on his face.
'Really?' Ruki asked, curiosity engrossed him.
'My family live not far away from Kanagawa. I chose to move when my father became abusive towards us. I told my mother and
younger brother to run away with me too but they were adamant that my father would get better. It seems harsh that I left them I know, but I wasn't going
to suffer when there was a choice. I made mine and moved here with, Reita. I missed them in the beginning, but I keep feeling like they chose my father over of
me. In a way they did though I guess.' A single tear ran down Kai's pale cheek. Ruki grabbed a tissue from his pocket wiping it away.
'Thanks.'
'It's okay.' Ruki smiled. Time flew while they talked and they revealed alot more than what was intended. There was a
silence before it was broken by Ruki;
'Kai there's something I've been wanting to tell you but please, please dont' react badly...'
At this point Kai became worried, the sad look that covered his face was replaced by confusion.
'It depends on what it is...' Kai said cautiously.
'Just promise me please?' Ruki pleaded. His eyes were becoming glazed over.
'Okay then, I promise.' He agreed, although he was still worried. There's a pause before Ruki speaks;
' I Love You...'
'...What?!' Kai shouts.
'You promised!' Ruki loudly whispers back at him.
'That was before I knew you were going to say something like THAT. I... I can't do this Ruki.' Kai says getting to his
feet.
'Don't leave me, Kai!' Ruki pleads yet again. The tears he held back now freely flowed down his cheeks. 'I don't
know what you see in me.' Kai counters. He feels a pain in his chest. 'Why do I feel like this?'
He thinks. He can feel his tears forming in his eyes.
'Your all I think about, Kai. The last thing on my mind before I go to sleep at night and the first thing I think of when I wake
up. I've thought of a million ways to get you to notice me. Your all I want, all I need and I can't think of life without you. It would be
pointless.' Stunned by these words he crouches down to comfort Ruki.
'But we only met this morning.' He says, confused by Ruki.
'No, you met me this morning and took the time to get to know me tonight, you wouldn't believe how thankful I am that you
made that choice.' Ruki talks through his tears.
'That still doesn't make any sense though, WE DON'T KNOW EACH OTHER.' Kai says, emphasising the last few words.
'But I know you Kai, for a long time now. I can remember the first time I saw you. I never believed in love at first sight until
you, it was you that re-awakened me. I first saw you when you started work at the restaurant. You pulled at my heart strings when no one else could. You are my
first and I hope my last. Your my world Kai and I love everything about you. Your smoldering eyes, the way your dark beautiful hair contrasts with your pale
skin. The single dimple that appears on your cheek everytime you smile. Even your slender but slightly muscular shape.'
'I don't think this is gonna work, Ruki. I mean, I don't even think I love you let alone spend the rest of my life with
you.'
'Can't we atleast try, please Kai?' At those words Kai held his hand out to Ruki who was still sitting on the evergreen.
He thought it over for a few minutes. He spent most his life alone and now he's found someone who would practically give his life for him, he's ready
to turn him away. I'm such a masochist/sadist* he thought.
'Yeah, we can.' Kai smiles. Ruki gets to his feet and wraps his arm around Kai. He presses his lips to his neck and he hears
him whisper,
'I Love You.'
Kai returns the hug and smiles to himself. Grabbing Ruki's hand he leads him out of the park and they make their way back to his
apartment.
Entering his home, Kai flicks the lights on. It's a plain room, cream carpet with mahogany furniture. Kai didn't get any
further, Ruki grabbed his wrist and pulled him back against the wall.
'Ruk-' He was cut off by Ruki's kiss. At first Kai struggled to fight him off but succumbed to his sweet taste,
indulging in it. Ruki's hands moved from Kai's wrists to his shirt slowly un-doing his buttons. He slid his hands inside feeling the soft fair skin,
tracing the outline of his petite shape. This time Kai kissed Ruki and managed to pull counter him so that he was against the wall, leaving Ruki breathless.
Interrupting the hypnotic osculum, Kai whispers in his ear;
'Remember love at first sight?'
'Yeah?' Ruki answers, eyes still closed and breathing heavily.
'Well... I think I Love You too.' He smiles, exposing a dimple and then continues to succumb to his partners delicious taste.
